So i saw some IR beams that were used on a paranormal TV show and I wanted some.

I looked about and saw various makes and models but I came across a DIY kit and thought thats for me!!!

Sooo off I went and purchased the kit from my local Maplin store in the UK and I will attempt to solder it together for your amusement.

Now lets get this out in the open, my soldering technique is well erm non existent and I should imagine that people reading this are cringing at the quality.

So as I said I purchased the kit from Maplin here

I got home and settled around my soldering station which happens to be my dining table. I filled up my trusty gas soldering iron and set to work butchering the circuit board.
My soldering Fu is non existent so much so that I applied too much heat to the board a ruined the tracks.

I managed to repair the board though so all was not lost. The other board was faired a little better from my soldering technique and 30 mins or so later the talkghost IR BEAM was born.

They are actually quite good and a nice beginner project I think.

I reckon the next mod will be to encase the boards in boxes to protect them and they will make up part of my investigation kit.
